Mobile phone campaign
The Road Safety Trust launched its Keep your eyes on the action campaign to make drivers more aware of driver distractions in April 2008. Whilst the Trust's primary focus continues to be awareness to the dangers of distracted driving, the Trust is also running a parallel media campaign which highlights the dangers associated with using a mobile phone while driving. All mobile phone calls distract from driving.
The messages of this campaign are:
- You're four times more likely to have a crash when your on a mobile phone; and
- It's hard to do two things at the same time.
These messages align perfectly with the Trust's existing sponsorship message:
Research shows that:
- using a mobile phone while driving you are four times more likely to crash;
- the reaction times for drivers using a mobile phone behind the wheel is the same as driving at the maximum legal limit of alcohol consumption; and
- texting behind the wheel impairs driving skills more than being drunk.
